Topic: True Detective

OK season 1 was brilliant but I never got thru seasons 2 & 3. Now on S4 Ep 2. So I literally laughed out loud right at the start and pretty sure I wasn’t meant to. The first ep was ok but this one just keeps going from bad to worse. Couldn’t even finish it! I’m so disappointed as I was crazy excited about Jodie Foster redeeming this show for me. But even she is not good in this. Please tell me..is it me? Am I alone in this?!!! Should I keep trying? Aghhhhh 😖😖😖

Craig S. Personally I prefer the cast & storylines of season 2 just a tad (and I do mean a tad) over season 1, and season 3 was my least favorite. I haven't started season 4 yet, but from what I've seen & heard it looks like my cup of tea. Even though season 3 was my least favorite I still prefer it over most of the other crime shows I've watched.

Sher Free✌️ Well I definitely want to see what you think about S4. I was a huge fan of the ultra creepy and bizarre show Fortitude, also Trapped another excellent Nordic crime drama. S4 seemed like it was going to have a fairly similar vibe and I love anything set in Alaska so was absolutely positive it would be my cup of tea too! But yeah you’ll probably have a different opinion than me since I hated what I saw of S2 and we’re opposite on that 🤣

Joslyn I have a slight bias for a few reasons, but I loved it! Lots of fun callbacks to season 1. Maybe only season one was for you and that’s ok!

Sher Free✌️ Thanks I’m glad you liked it. Going in I had a few biases myself, probably why I’m so frustrated at my own disappointment!

Joslyn Sounds like it might be best to not watch the rest if there are feelings of disappoint so early on. I know a few ppl who didn’t love it, so you’re not alone, but they ended up watching it all and not liking it with each episode. Better to not spend time trying to enjoy something if there are already warning signs you might not like the rest!

Damien Scott I’m reeeeeeally biased here. I love the first season and believe True Detective should have ended there. Watched season 2 &3 and was not impressed. I don’t currently have Max but they did upload the first episode of Night Country to YouTube. I watched it and was not impressed. Would have subscribed to Max had it been good. Just my two cents. I’ve heard two sides to season 4: Really like it or really hate it.

Sher Free✌️ omigod Damien thank you so much! I completely agree..1000%!!! The first season might be the best television I’ve ever seen. But I couldn’t even get through the first episodes of S2&3 and wasn’t crazy about Ep1 of S4 but was willing to give it another chance. And then the first scene of Ep2 was so ridiculously bad I burst out laughing..like MST3K laughing! I tried for another 20 minutes and just got more and more appalled. I think you did the right thing!
