To me a "best" or "favorite" Lynch film misses the point of this director. Here is an artist who made out-there films like Mulholland Drive and Eraserhead while also making The Straight Story and The Elephant Man. However to see Mulholland Drive and The Straight Story helps you understand the versatility in his talent and his sensitivity towards art. He could do structured narrative and pure abstraction. One type of movie complements the other in knowing what art could be, not what it should be.
