What would be the best weapon or implement to be used as a weapon during the zombie apocalypse? Must be something that currently exists. So no lightsabers or other sci-fi or fantasy weapons.

Ophylia St. Grey Bow/crossbow because you can make arrows easier than bullets probably.

Road Master Those would be an excellent choice for a short to medium range weapon.

MeYou0 I was watching The Walking Dead when I worked at a major hardware store. Every time I walked by the rakes, spades, and other pointy gardening tools I'd subconsciously pick my weapon and make note for the impending zombie apocalypse. It would have to be something somewhat lightweight but effective to use without applying much force because I'm not that strong.

Road Master I've been thinking about it. I'm thinking baseball bat or club. Head trauma is generally the accepted way to kill zombies. Anything with a blade such as a sword or axe are too likely to become lodged in the skull of a zombie. Which would be extremely problematic if facing a pack or horde of zombies. A bat is designed to be swung and doesn't need to be sharpened or reloaded. An aluminum bat might be ideal. Aluminum doesn't really corrode and is less likely to break than wood.

Road Master The chainsaw would probably be great for a zombie or 2. But they run on gas and are surprisingly easy to gum up. Which flesh and bone would do well.

Brandon Reed If you know how to use it, a polearm like a halberd or naginata would be ideal in open spaces. Their full intent historically was to minimize the threat to yourself by keeping enemies at a distance. Their weakness would be enclosed spaces, in which a shorter weapon would be necessary. To counter the weight of the polearm, I'd say a well-lacquered or metal club like a nightstick, shillelagh, or even tonfa would be good for those situations. The tonfa would be particularly good, because they keep the leading forearms protected at stance, but they require more training and practice to use effectively.

Brandon Reed All this is in the absence of practical firearms, of course.

Road Master The only issue I can see with polearms is the space required for use. You already mentioned enclosed spaces. But I think you're going to have the same problem with zombies. With living humans, there's a natural survival instinct and fear that takes effect. Even if you have 30 friends with you, if you're trying to attack a single individual who's swinging an 8 foot pole with a blade on the end, you're all going to hesitate and wait for an opening. Also, with living people, pain is a factor. If I'm swinging the polearm and you and 30 of your most violent friends are attacking me, I don't necessarily need to kill you. I just need to poke or cut you bad enough to take the fight out of you. With the generally accepted parameters of a zombie, none of that applies. You're basically in an enclosed space made of unfeeling flesh. So while I'm stabbing 1, 29 others are still moving forward and are now inside the perimeter of my polearm.

Road Master I would say this is in the realm of the difference between a zombie outbreak and a zombie apocalypse. Outbreak suggests that society is still reasonably functional, manufacturing is still occurring as it should, equipment and supplies are still readily available. Apocalypse suggests that none of that applies. You may have guns and ammo. But eventually, you will run out.

Sages I've always been partial to the generic frying pan. A great cooking utensil, and an exceedingly violent blunt force object that doesn't run out of ammo.
