"I'm currently rewatching this. It's been awhile but it is lush and makes me breathe deeply seeing the familiar faces and beautiful clothing. Michelle Pfeiffer, Winona Ryder and Daniel Day-Lewis all shine in this story of a tragic love triangle in New York. Romance, scandal and grandeur of the age always draw me in. Recommended, indeed. "

"The word sensual is not one I would normally associate with Martin Scorsese’s directing style, but this film practically drips with sensuality. The yearning and fleeting touches and tension between Newland and Ellen was at a level of intensity that took my breath away. That being said, I could not root for them and their love story. I know, I know. The real villain of this film (and its book predecessor) is society and its meaningless expectations and its asinine rules and dictations, but the couple did May so dirty. All I wanted was to protect her from their ongoing betrayal. She was the picture of innocence, which, of course was the point. It was a beautiful film nonetheless and Michelle Pfieffer, Winona Ryder and Daniel Day-Lewis all played their roles to perfection."

"I love the costumes, drama, and Romance. He redeem himself and she received what she deserved by being scorned by society. "

"While an interesting story ( a man, betrothed to another, yet he loves her sister, and she knows, she loves him too, yet completely rejects him), and really great actors (Daniel Day Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Winona Ryder), with an awesome director (Martin Scorsese), the film tends to drag heavily with the "Will They? Won't they?" narrative. With that being the only focus, the film is just meh.
Needs more guns. And shooting "

"Even as a straight guy, I cannot get over what an absolute SNACK Daniel Day Lewis is in this film!"

"The love triangle really lost me, and I found the husband to be completely disloyal. I’m generally not a fan of romance. I give the movie 2 stars instead of one for the cinematography and for Scorsese’s candid criticism and love for America which is reflected very well in this film. "

"An all-star cast beautifully portrays the Edith Wharton classic on film. Daniel Day-Lewis, Michelle Pfeiffer and Winona Ryder give outstanding performances set in the back drop of New York City in the 1870s during the Guilded Age and following them through the years. A quiet love triangle with the best of manners and social graces that could only exist during “The Age of Innocence”. "
