"A solidly well made movie. Impressive dance choreography, paired with strong editing and cinematography, and performances (Rita Moreno, Natalie Wood, George Chakiris, Russ Tamblyn, and especially Richard Beymer stand out). This is a rare case where both the original and remake are both equally good, and where the remake makes proper upgrades to the source material while still retaining the spirit of the original. As a matter of fact, I very narrowly prefer the remake in part due to the more cinematic feel of the new one, but this version is still impressive nevertheless."
