"Read the book first! I knew very little to nothing about Japanese culture prior to reading the book. The movie alone was forgettable until I read the book. Most times movies adapted from novels fall devastatingly short. That is not the case here. It isnt a case of whether the film is better than the written story, rather, the movie is a bonus to the book and one should not exist without the other. "
