"My husband and I love this movie. We have the pop up book and everything. "

"Movie where they made loss and resentment into a fully formed monster that eats away at you and the people around you. The message might be a little on the nose once you think about it but the way it was told was interesting. I’m a sucker for the mommy horror sub genre there’s a lot you can do with that and this is a good example. Also the babadook=gay icon! 🏳️🌈"

"Being a stressed out mother is something I know loads about but it does not a horror movie make...I couldn't even finish this movie ...it was way too triggering and just not entertaining! Not sure why everyone sang high praises for this one...."

"For me it was a movie that once was enough. Dark and depressing. Interesting the Mom not being able to move on after her husband dead, her grief was taking over her. By ignoring it, it was making it worse. Babadok represented her grief, her depression couldn’t let her live nor connect with her son. To confront it and accept it, she was able to get hold of her life. Didn’t like that the doggy was killed and yes I know it is fiction but still sad."

"Aside from imagining being this kids parent this is a good creepy movie with an unexpected ending!"

"This is about a young boy whose father died the day he was born. He is obsessed with monsters and making sure he saves his mother from them. He has behavioral issues that will make you want to smack him but he's a very good little actor. You'll end up loving him. His mom has never gotten over the death of her husband and that has caused her problems in being a good parent, hence her son's issues. He likes his mom to read to him before bed. One night he chooses a book that she didn't know he had, The Babadook. "If it's in a word, or it's in a look, you can't get rid of the Babadook"
This movie deals with depression and grief in a really unique way. It's creepy and scary and very atmospheric in a dark and dreary way. The Babadook is a wonderful new monster (well, old now but I just watched it for the first time so....) that will fill you with dread. I highly recommend this movie but I feel I should warn you, there is an animal death. I hate that but I comforted myself by reminding my brain it's not real. The animal was not really harmed. Anyway, I know this is a spoiler but I know no other way to warn the people who avoid movies that have any kind of animal abuse or death. I apologize if I've upset anyone with my small spoiler.
This is a great movie for the Halloween season. Grab some popcorn, turn off the lights, and enjoy!
4/5*s (No gore.)"
