"An impeccably well made movie. Well ahead of its time, particularly with its depiction of a gay love story. Fantastic acting and production values (especially production design and cinematography), as well as screenplay. Hugh Grant, James Wilby, and Rupert Graves stand out. It is amazing that the screenwriter for CALL ME BY YOUR NAME directed this film (James Ivory). Probably one of my Top 2 favorite Merchant-Ivory films I’ve seen to date (topped only by the THE REMAINS OF THE DAY). Highly recommended."

"This drama is definitely one of the most interesting I’ve ever seen. It’s extremely exciting and has great scenes with lots of tension and longing. At times it can be slow and a bit dull, but these are to show the depression and repetition of the main characters as they grow apart. Great plot development and a highly satisfying ending I didn’t see coming"
