Alice, Darling

"Alice, Darling feels like a very real story, and that's perhaps the biggest compliment I could give it. It's fairly uncomfortable at times and will touch a few nerves understandably, with its tense storytelling which is handled very well. I don’t think I’ve ever seen emotional abuse depicted on screen like this. I can’t believe it’s actually men that exist like this in the world. It's the best performance Anna Kendrick has delivered in a while."

" if you think you’re expecting fast paced or action, there’s none here. It’s sad, it’s painful and it’s incredibly slow but yet so very real. Anna Kendrick is such a great actress and you truly felt her pain along every long minute of the movie but this is the real struggle of many going through emotional abuse. "

"I probably would have liked it more if I realized it’s more of a drama than a thriller. It’s a really poignant movie. I liked the rep for people with Trichotillomania (disorder involving hair pulling). Wish the ending had been more climactic. A lot of times, leaving men like this takes a lot more than breaking up with them once. There are completely valid reasons that women like Alice might be hesitant to leave these men, and I wish those reasons had been explored more by the narrative. I also wish the friends had been explored more: Why didn’t they notice what was going on sooner? What could they have done differently to better help their friend? (Not trying to blame the friends ofc, just thinking of questions the story could’ve engaged with). Kind of anticlimactic overall"

Most people believe that abusive relationships are just physical abuse but in fact this couldn’t be further from the truth. Emotional and psychological abuse is painful and can have devastating effects. This story and characters are unfortunately very realistic. It does a great job portraying the sadness, shame and suffering that takes place for the victim without making it seem like a far-fetched Hollywood production. "

"Extremely raw content and Anna Kendrick does phenomenal, apparently she had some sort of similar situation so I will not say the content or story line is bad because it's emotional and shines a light on serious topics, emotional and psychological abuse and the tole it takes and just toxic relationships that are everywhere unfortunately. However the movie in general wasn't that great lol its a Very slow burn and I found myself fast forwarding parts but the performance of Kendricks was the best thing about this movie. "
