DerrickSo I googled (What was the very first Horror Written? ) This is what popped up.,Considered the very first gothic, horror-ish romance-ish of its time. For a book written in the 1700s. This actually kept my interest. Would I recommend this to just anyone.. Noooo. There's a lot going on and the characters just pop up out of no where.. which made it a little confusing. But I listened to this twice and the second time around I enjoyed it a lot more. There's obession. Unwanted advances. Light paranormal happens. A family curse, mystery. For what time period this was from I found it entertaining enough. Yes the female characters were not what today's readers are looking for or used to, but come on, the original writer was from the 1700s.. and male, what do you expect. Manfred the main-ish character is a compete jerk who it's seems will do anything to beat an ancient family? curse. Even try to marry his now deceased son's bride. And chaos ensues. I think this all happens within a span of two days.. I myself really did enjoy the book. Given its chaos trying to follow what was going on and who's who. Read from: May 05, 2025 - May 06, 2025
DerrickAs an adult male who just read this, I actually enjoyed this book. Willowdeen is relatable as she cares about all animals especially the hated beasts that roam her world. I feel bad for the Screechers, they don't really do anything but protect their young and when they feel threatened they stink up the place. They are hunted almost to extinction. Willodeen rescues a hummingbear and a screeched. I loved the characters and beasts in this book. My first book by this author and not my last. Read from: Apr 23, 2025 - Apr 25, 2025
DerrickThese were some creepy tragic spooky stories and I loved every minute of it. For me it seemed like the stories blended together. Wasn't sure if all the stories belong to the same person or other people. But very creepy non-the-less. Read from: Apr 22, 2025 - Apr 23, 2025
DerrickPlease Daniel Pyle, I want some more. I want more of this story. Because if it ends like that. Then.. I'll be a little upset. This had my adrenaline pumping for almost every single page. Just to have it end like that. I'm frustrated. But l'm happy I read this. It was very heart pumping and nerve wrecking! Read from: Apr 19, 2025 - Apr 21, 2025
Derrick⚠️ may contain spoilers ⚠️I have steered away from my usual horror, thriller, mysteries and splatter punk, for this cute 🏳️🌈💕(gay romance) story. We have Zack Martin, who starts off a push over to the already graduated or nearly graduated senior and captain of soccer team Ryan ( total d-bag btw ) who pulls a prank and asks Zack to take the blame. Stupidly Zack does, which gets him some kind of community service at a Seaside Conservation Center. And from there everything goes south.. with friends and soccer mates, even with his new crush Chip.. Chip- is the no other than the cousin of Ryan.. Chip is an environmentalist intern. Who doesn’t take to Zack right away. But like most of all good romances, they do spark. They both get on my nerves, but in a good way.. The story is cute and I would read more from this author!!!
DerrickIt seems that a lot of people did not like this book. I am not one of those people. I enjoyed this book from start to finish. It was very creative in how the book started just to have it finish like it did. Many people don’t think the ending didn’t make sense. It does. It explains everything at the end. I’m glad I gave this book a chance. ( if you read this what did you think )
DerrickFrom what I remember from watching the movie.. the movie does follow the book which made me happy. Even though I wasn't scared reading this.. it still gave me shivers hoping things would be different, knowing well enough it wasn't going to. I do love this book.. even after watching the movie first. The way Rosemary came off as naive and then became aware of what was happening and the length she went through to try to protect her baby from these evil people. Heartbreaking.. !! Spoikers ! ! ** of course Ive started The Son of Rosemary** and its starts out devastating. Read from: Apr 14, 2025 - Apr 15, 2025
DerrickI heard this was supposed to be one of the scariest books out there. Which for a fact it was toward the middle and end. There is a malicious ghost haunting, historic house secrets. A big house mystery, undocumented births, a lot of possessed erotic torture (of course to the big breasted blonde medium ) ex Hollywood star ( I believe ) and uncomfortable situations for the rest of the characters. But the majority is aimed at the medium. And a machine that will save them all. Unlike a lot of reviews on here, I thought it was boring in the beginning, mild to wild in the middle and a dud climax at the end. If anything in this review pict your interest, by all means go for it. This book was not one of my favorites.. Read from: Apr 10, 2025 - Apr 12, 2025
DerrickThis was a tough review to write, because I think this may have been written for a younger audience.. so l am conflicted. -I do think this book was written for children 10-15 age range. -the beginning started out making me think ooh some crazy things are about to happen to these characters later on. Besides SOME momentary artistic (drawing out his )visions of SOME Final Destination situations from our male character Calvin, nothing scary happens. - Characters- Elena, Steph, Gracie and Calvin all former car pool riding friends. They grow apart and the only useful and likeable character is Calvin. Elena- just has pent up anger issues. Steph- is a closeted lesbian who is kinda clueless. Gracie- nothing really remarkable to remember about her. Calvin- I really like his character development. He has headaches that cause visions of terrible situations. And he draws them right before they happen. He is my favorite. But in all this book (had it not seemed to be written for children ) had great potential to do some haunted dark hurt on people. Was just a mild semi-unscary campfire tale.
DerrickThe end of the book explains everything. Soo.. I will just give my opinion. It starts out slow and gets a bit faster paced toward the middle and end. A lot of characters to keep track of. The author got inspiration from movies he enjoyed. But it gave off two that weren't mentioned (at least I don't think) Jeepers Creepers and Storm of the Century. There is hint of a sequel but.. (this was written a while back, so not sure if there is one.) Would I read the sequel.. probably not, to be honest. There's a little bit of religious themes in here.. which I didn't catch on until it was explained at the end. The plot was there, it didn't make sense to me. I don't think if there is such thing as a devil, I doubt they'd give second chances, like they did in the book. It was alright but not for me. Read from: Apr 01, 2025 - Apr 04, 2025
