JennGreat world-building and lore! Enemies to lovers and back to enemies? I'm mourning for characters I thought I wouldn't care about and left devastated by the ones I thought I loved. Cannot wait to dive into the sequel.

JennOverall, it was a good story with intrigue and mystery but for the series, it was ok. As a prequel, it was nice to see the connection to the story of Lina and Doon but the questions I wanted answered were left to the reader's imagination; which was a little disappointing but not terrible considering the time difference between the two stories.

JennI'm blown away time and again with every book released in this series and I cannot wait for the last 2. The cliffhanger that seemed almost mid-sentence was diabolical. The introduction of the 7th den, the world expansion, glimpses at Daddy Sorrengail's past, and hints about Violet's character and the secrets surrounding them were impeccable. Such a great read!

JennI'm devastated and heartbroken over this finale. I know there is so much more to come from the world Lauren Roberts is creating but in regards to Pae, Kai, and Kitt it was a happy tragedy. I wish it were different but it gave the story the depth it needed. I cannot wait for Fearful and to see what is beyond.

JennAn ending that comes full circle and beyond. A well-deserved ending for our characters.

JennI love the world that was built in these pages. I love the villain. I love the hit men. I love the support characters and I love the ending. Highly recommend.

JennA follow-up to The City of Ember. This story did well at showing our characters' first steps through a world that is new to them but familiar to us and the people of Sparks. The mingling and integration of new people with current settlers is never easy and that is exactly what we see here. Personally, even for a page-turner, I found the book lacking the same level of mystery and intrigue that the first novel gave us. However, learning about our post-apocalyptic world is the biggest draw to this story.

JennA re-read that was just as good the second time around. What a world to conjure! People of an underground city and the secrets it holds. For a children's book, it depicts heavy topics from lying, secrets, betrayal, and defiance. Such a wonderful story that will have you questioning if our future will look like this.

JennA world of shadows. A family cursed to keep it at bay. Death, in living form. One girl destined to be his undoing. Such an amazing story that is brand new but feels so familiar. The type of childish thriller that is satisfying and scratches the itch for a light-hearted scare.

JennThis book made the list of books that took far too long to finish. It was a great story with a few twists I didn't see coming but I put it down after the first 100 pages because I wasn't sold with the story that was given to me by that point. The villain was pure perfection. Her evil doings, attitude, and introduction were nothing short of fantastic. With that exception, the introduction of the 3-4 main characters in this story did not wow me. Their growth and involvement developed beautifully but their initial reveal was slow, at best. Overall, a great story. Just stick with it because the last 2/3 of the book was great.
