KelIf ever you find yourself thinking that maybe the people that make TV shows and movies don't know what they're doing think of this one. Not the people who made it mind you. No, this is a masterpiece. The people who did the quote unquote advertising. I had never heard of this and just stumbled across it and now I have watched it twice and am eyeing the audiobook lecherously.

KelThis may be my favorite book of all time. I was doing the audiobook and I put it down simply because of competing interests and ADHD and frankly because I wanted to hear the stuff in the beginning again because it's mind-blowing stuff. I eventually restarted and just finished it on my trip home 20 minutes ago. I may start it again tonight and if not probably on my commute in the morning. This book is chock full of esoteric knowledge some of which matches what I've read over the decades but some of it is mind-blowing yet seems as if it holds a kernel, at least, of fact to it. Some of it was right in my wheelhouse; history, religion, spirituality and even philosophy. Some of it was delightfully over my head and made me want to be more, to reach for the stars so that I could truly take this knowledge and learn from it; change from it. It is as empowering a book as I have ever read.

KelThe Expanse except not actually in space. This could easily be a story about Detective Miller from that show. It could have been done as a Takeshi Kovacs novel as well and I think it would have benefited from that treatment which is not a slight against this book at all. At a time when my ADHD wasn't letting me read I finished this book. In multiple sittings, yes, but I think it was the first one in a few years. I kept wandering away but I kept coming back too and, truth be told, I'm thinking about reading it again so don't let my three stars fool you. I'm something of a tough critic.

KelIt's one of those great travesties that we don't have more of this show. Is it a trailblazer? No. Is it an elite level show? No. Is it Neil Gaiman? YES. And it's modern fantasy done well. There are a lot of almost-Constantines but none of them are as good, I don't care if it's Matt Ryan or Keanu Reeves.

KelI'm kind of waffling on giving this five stars as four stars might be more appropriate but what the hell I'm going for it. It's got humor, it's quirky, it's got overarching plot, because boy am I sick of old school serial TV shows, it's got darkness...there is a lot to love here.

KelA Jackson Pollock from arterial spray. I really enjoyed this book! It was not deep in lore like I typically love but it really worked and it had a great aesthetic and vibe. The concept is a simple, understated elegance. The story is messy and dark and gritty.

KelIt was tough to rate this one. I like the book and I would say my true rating is more like three and a half stars but by no means take that as a negative, again, I enjoyed this book. Is it in the elite level? No. Is it in that next level? Not for me but it is very close to it and Bardugo is an absolute gem. I do think the first book was better but I hope we get a third one in short order and I'm very much looking forward to the show.
