Connor NunleyA good sequel, my biggest complaint with this book is the overdone separation of the love interest and main character due to "trust issues" which ultimately feel a little forced in the face of the "soul mates" trope that they fall into. I think the forced separation they endure is a good enough strain on the relationship given everything else and think the reasoning could have rested on jealousy or the introduction of another potential love interest rather than unbelievable strain between the main characters. I'm addition, the ending twist seems to be another attempt to drive the characters apart for a book before another eventual reunion. This will hopefully not be a hyper repetitive will they/won't they be together forever type of romance. My favorite part of the book was the realistic depiction of grief and PTSD that come from dealing with the impact of war/conflict on young people. As a veteran who has known many people who have died overseas I found it very realistic for how it handles these feelings.

Connor NunleyHonestly a great read if you can turn your brain off and just enjoy the fun. The main character can be a bit teenager-y in her horniness and the plot is generally predictable. None of this got in the way of me having a great time reading this book and it's sequel in around 4 days total. As a fantasy veteran, this book hit all the right nostalgic notes to make this a hit for me. It doesn't reinvent any wheels and it isn't genre defining but it certainly is fun and the spicy scenes are handled well.
