Donna ThiessenDubbed the fart movie, this one stars Daniel Radcliffe as a dead guy who is reanimated by need and later by love. This is a story of friendship between the dead and the living. Fantastical, ridiculous and revelling in its absurdity. Lots of fun special effects including the corpse fountain and of course the farts.

Donna ThiessenJapanese culture with Ozu in 1962. This one deals with family and marriage. Family obligation demands female fealty which results in guilt. The interior scenes are filmed in grids while exteriors provide strong perspective.

Donna Thiessen Is political irony your jam? Here the leaders of the G7 gather to craft . . . A statement as an apocalyptic event overtakes the world. Like anyone else they do not understand what is happening but their response is not dissimilar to other horror movie victims- relying on superstition and misplaced optimism. Fun visual effects to highlight the irony. The horror is mild; the confusion and tension heightened.

Donna ThiessenA fun premise: what if a guy with money issues signs up to be an expendable in a world where human 3d printing is selectively allowed. What could go wrong, what exploitation could be taking place? It starts with a scenario where it is mildly inconvenient to prevent his death but everyone takes it for granted that he will die. By the director of Parasite who explores ethical quandaries like they are a walk in the park

Donna ThiessenI star lost for reprising the same story, 1 star added for showing a middle aged Bridget who is still adorable and channeling her inner child. Middle aged female sexuality is having a moment. Here it is less perverse and a bit more whimsical and fun. Zellweger carries it off again and it is a romp.

Donna ThiessenNicole Kidman is Romy, who has few problems- one of which is she is unsatisfied with sex with her husband. This movie explores the complicated motivations of a mid life woman who has achieved recognized success at work and in her own life and can’t identify how to seek fulfillment. A younger man has the answer if she is willing . . .

Donna ThiessenA self reflective movie that considers what it takes to make a movie- what story works, how to get into and out of the story, how to make it better than real. How to spin a yarn while claiming it is true. There are so many truths. And so many confessions in our current age , all manipulated to present a narrative.

Donna ThiessenWell written and well acted. A family deals with a patriarch’s last will, which contains unfortunate surprises. The family is complex with three wives, unhappy adult children and one unexpected heir. Good cliff hanger endings encourage binging.

Donna ThiessenThe story of a family with struggles. One son has physical, social and cognitive differences. Heart warming and funny, tragic and banal. A nice story told well. It interests me that our acceptance of alcohol as acceptable is starting to change.
