MeganI love Stephen King and I’m considering myself a fan now. He’s gone 4 for 4 with me after reading this, Misery, 11/22/63, and one of his short story collections. All of them were amazing. I loved the main character Devin. Fantastic writing. The mystery was a good one too. Annie and Mike were perfect additions to the story. The ambience was so nice and vivid. Combined with the writing it really feels like you’re in a scorching hot amusement park in the 70s. And the ending was also perfect.
MeganSecond Colleen Hoover book. This one comes second to Verity, but it’s an honorable place still. I liked that she allowed me to read from different perspectives because without that, I wouldn’t be able to discover what a tragic childhood Asa had. The part where he takes his friend’s lunch note made me BAWL. I felt terrible that he was dealt those cards, but satisfied that Sloan was set free. Also, Luke was a great love interest and protagonist.
MeganI was looking for a summer mystery romance book and The Perfect Couple hit every target. The mystery plot was laid out well. I was suspicious of every character because everyone had secrets and flaws. I loved how the romance plots were written. We get to read Karen and Bruce’s love story, Celeste and Otis’, and Celeste and Shooter’s morally ambiguous love story as well.
MeganAlex Michaelides knows exactly how to write a mystery. I read this because I remember how jaw dropping The Silent Patient was. This one was also excellent. I kept trying to solve the mystery in my head and no matter which answer I came up with, Michaelides had a completely different conclusion. It came out of nowhere, but there were also little clues that are perfectly planted. I was hooked the entire time and loved the dark academia setting. Really good book for Fall.
MeganDon’t let this book’s size scare you into not reading. It’s definitely worth the read. Everyday I looked forward to diving back into its world and I even tried not to read too much sometimes because I didn’t to finish it too fast. What an incredible experience. My favorite type of book: suspense, a love story, and an unforgettable ending. So many quotes will stay with me forever. - “Dancing is life.” - “How we danced.” - “If there is love, smallpox scars are as pretty as dimples.” - “Like all sweet dreams, it will be brief , but brevity makes sweetness, doesn’t it?” - “I have never been what you’d call a crying man.”
MeganIt took me a while to finish this book because it can be slow and hard to comprehend sometimes, but I’m glad I didn’t drop it. I knew it had potential for an amazing climax and finale. Very thought provoking and it had situations that were so painful to imagine. I felt so sophisticated reading this 🧐.
MeganABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS BOOK. The synopsis drew me in immediately. I love unique storylines and this one definitely has it. Scythe deserves to be included in the discussion of best dystopians like The Hunger Games. By the first page I was immersed in its wicked and incredible world. The protagonists are written so well and are very likable. The ending was fantastic. Everyone should read this book.
MeganI love books where there’s romance but the romance doesn’t encompass the entire story. There is also a gripping, nerve-wracking plot going on. That is what Binding 13 is like. While I can’t wait for the cute chapters when Johnny and Shan get to be around each other, I also am anticipating another terrifying event to unfold for Shan. I can’t read books that are a carefree and cupcake filled fantasy. I like Binding 13 because it portrays real possibilities, like Shannon’s inexperience and awkwardness with Johnny or a broken home life. The last aspect I have to touch on is the final chapters of the book. I don’t think a book has made me shiver and gasp like that in a long time. As soon as I finished reading that devastating ending, I couldn’t keep it in and had to tell 3 people about what I just read. It was DERANGED. And I’m very glad I’ve read it.
