ChrissygThis was so brilliant! Loved the humor and whimsy. so creative. great characters and pace, the plot was so entertaining. The imagery is so fantastic. This reminded me of A Series of Misfortunate events: the imagery and humor and manner/style of narration, but this book manages to accomplish the whimsy without being overly child like or YA. POV Tress sets out to rescue Charlie from an evil sorceress out in the Midnight Sea. She meets these wonderful characters on a ship, the Oot's Dream. (a pirate ship) She learns about Spores and creates all kinds of tools to help the ship get through all the obstacles and wins the crews heart along the way. Can she rescue Charlie? spells, monsters, deadly rainfalls, an alien friend, a rat. Highly Recommend.
ChrissygIf you like culty, bat **** off the rails crazy, twisted, and horror, this is for you. 🙀 Twins Julie and Chloe are separated after the death of their parents. Julie goes to live with a bitter aunt while Chloe gets adopted by a rich white family. They both go many years without contact, until one day Chloe shows up at Julie's work (a cashier) recording her "reunion" with her long-lost sister. Chloe is a social media influencer who decides to use her life story about her twin sister to gain more followers. Julie is gifted a home and "change of life" by Julie. All contact stops once the socials start climbing for Chloe until one day, Julie receives a very weird call from chloe, and chole disappears. Concerned Julie decides to go check in on Chloe in New York, arriving at her apartment to find Chloe dead. I enjoyed the first half of the book. Mysterious and lots of character build, funny. The second half however went completely left field! 😳 Over-the-top top, repetitive, creepy, not what I predicting at all. Overall, it was entertaining, but not my cup of tea. I think it was too much of a jump in tone and didn't feel cohesive. Strange. Thank you, Netgalley, for my advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
ChrissygReally enjoyed the first book, 2nd book was good. I couldn't get into this 3rd book. I found the transition from the first and 2nd really well done, yet with this third, it was just weird. So much happening, action-packed, but way too much info bits that only leave us further questioning where this plot is headed. Lots of inconsistencies in the plot and world built/rules are very confusing. New characters i didn't care for. The Romance was annoying with the whole "I don't trust myself with you" after the whole build up with 2 full books. Kept pushing ahead to see the big plot reveal, but not much actually happened. I was super excited to jump into this one but ended up disappointed. Not sure I will pick up further in this series.
Chrissyg"If anyone discovered what was between you, Your father would kill you because what you two are doing is forbidden by both your peoples. If you were dirt-poor farmers, it would be forbidden, but you are the heirs of the most powerful families on the continent!" Coralyn Two enemies who fall in love with each other during a time of war between their borders. None with knowledge of whom the other really is; afraid of what reveling their true name might mean for their love. Keris, son of King Serin. How he hates his father and everything that he stands for. Keris doesn't want to rule. He is a scholar preferring books and knowledge over war and chaos. This book takes place during the war between Maridrina and Ithicana, while Serin has overthrown Ithicana and has imprisoned King Aren of Ithicana. This plot is told by Prince Keris and Lieutenant Zarrah Anaphora, niece of the empress of Valcotta. THey book goes over their pov as the second books plot is happening. How they met fell in love and the events of Zarrah being held in the Harem while King Arin is also being held prisoner in by King Serin. Action packed, lots of banter, romance, alliances, murder, torture, and adventures to take back the bridge. Ends on another great cliffhanger! cannot wait to read the next. Fantastic world build. Beautiful cover art. Highly recommend.
ChrissygAs much as I enjoyed book1, this 2nd book was just everything! I could not put this down! Lara deemed a traitor queen of Ithecana, banished by her husband, King Aren. Aren held captive by Laras father in Maridrina, as Ithecana is over thrown. Action packed! Kickass heroine Lara fights to the end for Ithecana, for Aren, for her sisters. I loved to see the reunion between Lara and her sisters, how they team up to save Aren. So good! The tension in the romance!!! 👌 just a touch of spice without overtaking the plot. Lovvvved this book!
