Naomi SuttonEasy to read, well written and exquisitely developed. It offered a glimpse into cultural values and individual themes as well as notes of history and intrigue. I loved the conclusion. Accelerating to top speed on chapter 17, I ate this book up. I'm ashamed it took me so long to start it. Reads sort of like a mini historical K-Drama and I am here for it!
Naomi SuttonCreative, sweet, and enjoyable. I thought it was a nice blend of historical inspo and mythological inspo while still maintaining some originality. I liked the wardrobe bit as I grew up loving Chronicles of Narnia. I look forward to the next one in this duology. PS The narators were wonderful.
Naomi SuttonIt was a free audiobook and it was pretty good; good build up for a series that's 12 books long currently π² I can't say as I was utterly enthralled but I certainly wasnt bored or uninterested either. I would 100% recommend for fans of some YA-ish thriller/mystery voodoo vibes. Definitely worth it if that's your thing. I wouldn't be opposed to picking up the second eventually...but with soooo many books on my TBR, I'm going to put this series on hold for a bit.
Naomi SuttonI bounced back and forth between 3 or 4 π The concept was interesting and there were layers and little details that made it enjoyable. However, I'm not sure I would classify it as a thriller... there seemed to be an intensity missing for me. But overall, easy to read, unique concept, and would recommend.
Naomi SuttonA simple story with simple characters. A little clichΓ© but I think that's part of the charm. Not overly spicy/explicit and I like that.
Naomi SuttonVery beautifully written. Artistic language and excellent explanations of cultural words without disrupting the story. I cam see some similarities to the lore in the Poppy War but it is still unique. Some themes of Asian culture are very well represented. And now I understand the crazy jumping in C-Films lol π
