ShelbyI was expecting this to be scary. I was pleasantly surprised to find it more like a dark fairytale. It had a very melancholy air that I thought made the whole story very poignant and interesting. There was one scene that made me squeamish, but in general there was more of a whimsical atmosphere, tempered by the uncertainty of childhood and the frustrations of a little boy who knows more than people give him credit for. I really enjoyed it. I think it's a good October read and I can't believe I slept on it for so long
