"4.25⭐️ How did I never hear of this show before?! It’s warm and cozy, tons of food p*rn and witty as heck. Also super revisionist but that’s really ok. Sarah Lancashire puts her own spin on Julia Child, respectfully evoking an essence but not exactly capturing her. Again…that’s ok! She’s fantastic and very endearing. The place and time of the 60s was painstakingly recreated and truly evocative too. The cinematography, the soft but vibrant color aspect and the vintage set design was truly lovely to spend time in. But also the calling up some of the sociopolitical aspects of the day, sometimes humorously and sometimes not, but especially how much time and energy women spent..ahem..*managing* a certain type of person. Hint: It was a lot. Sadly, as portrayed in the show, IRL a Black woman was never a show producer. Two White women, however actually were. I thought the change served the show very well, and the character of Alice Naman, superbly played by Brittany Bradford, imparts enough sensitivity to be a secondary heart of the show. Though true racial disparity (notably combined with gender) was glossed over a bit too much. Not quite as ok..and personally I would’ve liked that explored more since the initiative was taken to change that reality. More than appropriate given that you cannot discuss the 60s without acknowledging both the civil rights and women’s equality movements. The decade was saturated in unrest. That is one of my few quibbles, more effort was made to include certain parts over others. Anyhoo..no doubt Julia Child was a singular cultural phenomenon and this show lovingly does her more than justice on that level. I adored it! #womensstories #womenshistorymonth #badasswomen "

"Wasn't sure I'd get into a period piece about... cooking... of all things. This show really brings you back though and tells a really interesting story about the struggles Julia Child had trying to democratize cooking knowledge and making it accessible to everyone."

"Slight issues with this being pretty dramatized, I watched the documentary 1st, which for me tells a more accurate story of Julia and Paul and her struggles with being a woman in a still male dominated industry. That being said, this is well acted and fun, and I like it."
