"AMERICAN PRIMEVAL shares an atmosphere similar to THE REVENANT, which was a thrilling #survivalist revenge tale, but this #miniseries about the birth of the American West is relentlessly #brutal and #grim. Like The Revenant, it captures the harshness of nature and human cruelty but absolutely refuses to shy away from #graphic scenes. Viewers seeking a #visceral, #raw, and #realistic depiction of the era may find it compelling, but for me, it leaned too hard into its grim edge. I was hoping for something a little more tame or romanticized, yet still gritty and entertaining, like HELL ON WHEELS or 1883. That said, I know there are some folks who’ll enjoy this #gory #western #thriller, and the performances by Betty Gilpin and Taylor Kitsch were genuinely impressive—they brought much-needed depth to this brutal world. ⭐️6.7/10⭐️"

"Not bad. Like Deadwood and 1883, it shows how hard life was during the westward expansion. Berg should have just went ahead and shot it in black and white because the scenes are all as bleak, gray, dirty and depressing as the story. There’s no comedic relief or respite from the hardships and violence, and nothing good comes at the end. The Mormon’s are fired up about Brigham Young’s negative portrayal. But no one prosperous was innocent back then. And yet again, another example of how the natives were brutalized and wronged. So, not fun times. "

"Woooowie! This was outstanding! This miniseries had a way of placing you in the show. This isn’t for the weak.. it’s deep, gruesome and heartbreaking. Very much so real. The acting, the portrayal.. just everything. Wow! You need utter silence and no distractions for this. 6 episodes packed full, from start to finish. If you’re looking for happy go lucky, this is not the viewing for you. 10/10! 🙌🏼"

"It has everything a miniseries needs to have. The story, the casting, the acting and the setting were really great. I am not sure if it is historically accurate but it has a lot of great elements about that period of time. Fun to watch if you are into time pieces, action and adventure shows. Quick watch."

"Good show. Great acting. Like the others said , I’m not quite sure of the accuracy, but it’s engaging. I was quite rooting for Jacob’s wife, to have an happy ending. I could tell in the beginning she just wasn’t happy within the society she lived. If they do a second season, I hope they keep it engaging for the viewers. "

"It takes a lot of liberties when it comes to Mormons and how they act in these times. The acting throughout the series was great. The storyline does keep you hooked but makes you pause it to see if it’s accurate to history, which it’s not quite. I would recommend it if you are looking for a Western. "
