Ascendance of a Bookworm

"I dislike the current incarnation of isekai. Usually the protag has god-like powers or knowledge and there are few obstacles that can challenge them. By the 3rd episode this felt like it was going down the same route until one scene changed my mind. When protag tried to farm clay in the forest to make tablets when she was specifically told not to then a side character called her out for her dishonesty and single-mindedness 😮. Yes this show suffers from the some of the same problems I mentioned but due to its grounding, it’s able to convey a sense of stakes. Like I was fearing that the protag was going to lose something important to them. Maybe it’s because the writer is female and isn’t relying on physical combat as the main means of solving conflicts. Who knows but I enjoyed this nonetheless. "

"I didnt expect to like this. It intrigued me and then nearly lost me with its first scene. Yet somehow it managed to hook me and I stayed with it. Then I couldn't stop. It just got better as I watched it further. I love the characters. Lutz himself is incredible. I enjoy his relationship with the main character the most. He and the merchant just have great interactions with her. Plus it sets things up really well. Kind of shocking honestly. But yes I do enjoy this. The world she ends up in is a bit loose with ideas of age difference but it's a great story. I enjoy it a lot and more than I thought I would. I'm just glad I could finish the first season at least. There is more and I can't wait to watch it, but not till I actually can."
