"Although I didn't like this as much as many people, of course, Joaquin Phoenix does a great job playing an emperor who makes it his business to crush the will of his gladiators. Yes, Russell Crowe's performance was good, but not great, at least to me. Crowe should have received an Oscar for A beautiful mind, instead, he was granted one for Gladiator. The acting was good, but the story seemed more focused on the emperor, lopsided, instead of understanding Maximus' character as the man who Rome had betrayed and turn its back on. I wanted more. The story continues in the second movie."
"The definition of epic. Russell Crowe is a force in this film and Joaquin Phoenix is the creepiest easiest-to-hate villain. The entire movie is just a joy to watch, a cinematic marvel. It’s entertaining. It’s action-packed. It’s intriguing. It’s inspiring. I knew I would love it, but I didn’t think it would be this much. I really found myself in tears by the end of it, screaming, “ALL MY BOY MAXIMUS WANTED WAS TO GO HOME!!! LET HIM GO HOME!” "
"This is a good movie"

"The year is 2025 and I’m just watching Gladiator for the first time. I should be ashamed to call myself a film buff. Honestly it’s almost embarrassing admitting I’ve never seen this. The fact it came out in 2000 and I never watched it is amazing. It’s not like I didn’t know it existed or how iconic it is. It just one of those few films from the past I never got around to watching. Honestly if it wasn’t for the sequel it’s a high probability I might never watched it. But there’s no way I’m missing a film from one of the greatest actors to ever exist. Yes Denzel it’s one of my GOAT actors so everything he’s in I will watch and it’s been like that for ages. Anyway the whole time I was watching Gladiator all I could hear was “Are You Not Entertained” so much so I just wanted to get to that scene so I could get it out of my head. The fact this film is everything I love about period pieces. It’s not like reason I should have waited 25 years to see this but I’m glad I did. Also I didn’t even know Joaquin Phoenix was even making films 25 years ago. To see him so young was a mind trip. I actually had to go look up his catalog and realized I’ve seen a lot of his movies without even realizing who he was. I really rambled a lot sorry about that. Not really a review just scattered thoughts of mine."
