"The pacing was a bit slow to begin with and that bratty (but cute) kid had my nerves frayed...but wow did it pick up about a quarter the way in!!! Very gory but shot in a very cinematic way that we get to see the wolf's viewpoint. Incredible. I loved it. The only reason I gave it a 3 was because it wasn't realistic that dad was very clearly turning and they kept letting him back in the house each time."
"I loved it!! And I’m not into werewolf stories. "

"Semi spoiler alert: a father goes to his childhood isolated farm with his family after his father passes away. Before reaching the farm they’re attacked by a wearwolf that begins hunting them. During this chase the father is scratched, he must now protect his family from the other werewolf while transitioning himself. It was slowly and steadily intense however by the end you may be wiping tears."
"A solid horror movie that plays off of the wolf man and werewolf trends, making it into something more human and watchable. Some cool moments of body horror, some heart wrenching moments of family and fatherhood, some cool suspenseful moments. Loved the vibes of this horror movie as it leans into suspense and survival in the spooky, foggy Oregon wilderness. Great performances by the cast. I was left with very few leftover questions when the credits rolled, which I appreciate from action-heavy horror movies. I have a few theories after leaving the film, but overall it was a good movie to see in theaters and it didn't disappoint. "
"This was not what I expected in good and bad way. A young man returns to his childhood home after his father is declared dead. He comes with his wife and daughter. He swerves off the road to avoid hitting something. He is later injured and they run to his house. This isn’t a normal injury, and it starts to change him. What I didn’t expect was the slower deliberate way they handled his transformation. We got to see the world from his eyes and ears and how that continued to change over the night, and we saw what his family experienced as well. I liked how that was handled. On the other hand, this did not feel like a werewolf story. Yes, it was animalistic with a bit of a transformation, but it felt more like a body horror movie. There was no exploration of werewolf lore or story why this was happening even though they hinted at something deeper at the beginning. That is a huge part missing if you are calling the movie Wolf Man. It’s solid and worth a watch if you are into body horror type movies. If you are expecting a more traditional werewolf story you will be disappointed. Please check out my podcast Mostly Low Budget Movies Reviews with Clarence for a full break down. "Wolf Man, directed by Leigh Whannell, is a modern reimagining of the classic 1941 horror film. The story follows Blake Lovell (Christopher Abbott), who, along with his wife Charlotte (Julia Garner) and daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth), returns to his childhood home in rural Oregon after his estranged father is declared dead. Their attempt to reconnect as a family takes a dark turn when Blake is attacked by a mysterious creature, leading to his gradual transformation into a werewolf.
Whannell, known for his success with The Invisible Man (2020), aims to infuse this classic monster tale with contemporary themes, exploring toxic masculinity and generational trauma. However, the film struggles to balance its horror elements with these deeper messages. The narrative often feels disjointed, with character development taking a backseat to predictable plot twists and an overreliance on jump scares.
Visually, Wolf Man offers moments of atmospheric tension, particularly in its depiction of the Oregon wilderness. Yet, the creature design and transformation sequences, while aiming for a visceral impact, come across as underwhelming and at times unintentionally comical. The practical effects, though ambitious, fail to evoke the intended horror, diminishing the film's overall impact.
Wolf Man attempts to breathe new life into a classic horror narrative by embedding it with modern psychological themes. Unfortunately, it falls short due to a lack of cohesive storytelling, shallow character development, and ineffective scares. While it has fleeting moments of suspense, the film ultimately fails to leave a lasting impression, making it a forgettable entry in the horror genre. "
"It’s an ok movie, nothing special and a bit disappointing with how lazy some of the writing is in order to move the plot. Not something worth rewatching."
