Clarence Williams JrThe action here is pretty solid but not as clean and smooth as Wick. It was interesting to get the back story on the ballerina school, but the story itself was lacking. It was a revenge story but didn't really feel authentic. It felt more like and excuse for the action sequences. I will say I liked how they did not just make her a female Wick. They address the fact that she is highly trained but she will always be weaker and at a disadvantage so she has to approach her confrontations that way. They go a bit too far as she survives multiple grenades and a flame thrower fired at her point blank. This does take place in the timeline somewhere around Wick 3 so you do see Keanu a couple of times. You get to see him in action which was cool but served as a reminder there are 4 other movies that cover this material that are far better than this one. They did set up a possible sequel, but I think its better as a one off. It was solid but nothing you need to rush out and see. Clarence Williams JrMixed feelings about this one but I was mostly disappointed. Not a bad movie by any means but I was expecting more. I wasn't prepared for the slow burn nature after that initial opening where there is some disturbing imagery dealing with some sort of cult. Then it turns into a drama/thriller with a few horror elements thrown in. Nothing much really happens for that first hour. For me the payoff wasn't big enough to be that slow with an almost 2 hour run time. I either needed more scares or more of an explanation about what was going on. You never really get any of those basic questions answered. Which would have been fine with a more explosive ending. This comes from the same brothers that made Talk to Me, which I was also disappointed with after so much hype. If you loved Talk to me than you will like this one more than I did. Worth a watch but didn't have the scares I was hoping for. Please check out my podcast Mostly Low Budget Movie Reviews with Clarence for a more detailed breakdown. Clarence Williams JrThis movie deals with male bonding and loneliness in a very real way. Rudd's character is charismatic, friendly and funny with a great job. While Tim is the complete opposite; socially awkward, strange sense of humor with a boring corporate job. They don't seem like they would be friends but when he is brought into his circle, he feels that warmth of friendship and belonging. After he inevitably makes things awkward, he gets cast aside. It really hit him hard, and he doesn't have the social skills to deal with it. So that whole set up and what happened after felt pretty real. The flaw here is that it doesn't explore much outside of the setup and it's listed as a comedy but half of this really felt like a drama. Tim brings his unique brand of comedy to the role and has great chemistry and timing with Rudd. I expected more laughs but I still think it's worth a watch. Clarence Williams JrThere is no hand holding in this one. There is a very short recap and then it picks up a couple of months after the events of the previous film. You get all of the action, stunts and large set pieces you expect from a Mission Impossible movie and it's all done at an extremely high level. I have no idea how they shot some of those stunts. I liked how the story referenced previous events in other films and felt like they were all connected. This isn't the movie to start on if you are not familiar with the series. There are a lot of details that will be lost on you. I do think it gets a little bit too ambitions trying to cram in so much information. At one point they end up just doing an exposition dump for about 5 minutes. They really should have scaled it back and done a little more editing. No reason for this to be almost 3 hrs. It is a nice farewell if this is indeed the last movie in the series. Please check out my podcast Mostly Low Budget Movie Reviews with Clarence for a more detailed breakdown. Clarence Williams JrThis one started out kind of interesting. A rouge agent is hired for a job with the promise of getting his life back after being on the run for the past couple years. The job is to get on a plane and locate a hacker that has been causing havoc worldwide and bring them in. There are 2 other issues: no one knows what this person known as the ghost looks like and word has gotten around the ghost is on the flight and there is a huge bounty on their head. So, the agent and the back story are cool and then when he figures out who the ghost is things pick up. Lots of action, close quarters combat and more blood than expected. The problem with this one was the tone. Sometimes it felt serious and other times it was lighthearted. The person that ended up being the ghost was not believable. This borrowed heavily from other movies. There was even a trippy sequence that felt like Everything, Everywhere All at Once but again it didn't feel like it fit. It was just ok for me. I forgot about it as soon as the credits started to role. Please check out my podcast Mostly Low Budget Movie Reviews with Clarence for a more detailed breakdown. Final Destination Bloodlines imageFinal Destination Bloodlines poster

Clarence Williams JrGreat to see Tony Todd in his final role. They actually do a pretty good job in providing a reason for this movie to exist. Fans of the series know the drill by now but in this case, it was a woman that dodged death and saved a bunch of people years ago and now death is after the bloodline. This movie is all about the large set pieces and cleaver ways people are killed. This one has that in abundance along with a lot of blood and gore. Things do get a little long winded and could have used some editing. However, for a premise I thought was run into the ground this one felt kind of fresh. Maybe that's due to the long break we had from the franchise. But I guess we will find out since it has been successful and they did set up a possible sequel. This is one of the better ones in the series. Please check out my podcast Mostly Low Budget Movie Reviews with Clarence for a more detailed breakdown. On all streaming platforms including YouTube! Clarence Williams JrThey don't waste a lot of time with information you don't need. They throw in the middle after things have already happened and use flash backs to get you up to speed. They do it in a way that is not jarring and doesn't slow down the story. They put you in a moral position where you root for a different solution other than the one that ultimate you know is required for the situation. They subvert expectations with what's going on. You kind of know but not the full scope of the situation. Even with the short run time we get some nice bits of character development, and we do get attached to the protagonist. The only real issue is I think this is marketed incorrectly. It's listed as a horror/thriller when it's more of a drama with only a couple scenes that have horror elements. It's really about her journey and the final resolution after the reveal. Very solid but understand it is a bit of a burn. Clarence Williams JrI like the direction they took this in. They gave you more of the same characters from the previous film but leaned into the brother relationship this time around between Christian and Braxton. This gave it more of a buddy action kind of feel. Since their chemistry is so good that was a great choice. There is more action with a nice set piece at the end of them working together. They do go a little too far with the autism thing. Yes, at times they are better at a certain thing than normal people, but he just so happens to have a whole network of brilliant austic people working for him. That's a little much. I would have also enjoyed a little more exploration of his growth socially. There are a couple great scenes with him trying to date and relate to women, but they really only do it for comedic purposes. It would be cool to see him really deal with that. Overall, it's very funny and entertaining and I wouldn't mind getting a 3rd and final film in the series. Clarence Williams JrThis one showed a lot of promise before losing its way. Familiar set up but was done in an efficient way. A woman enters the US consulate with her son to get an approval to travel to the states for a job. She leaves her son in a playroom and when she comes back to get him, he is gone. After the authorities conducted a search, they told her she never came in with her son at all. Because she has some PTSD issues, they even start to convince her she is seeing things. Of course, this plays out with her investigating herself and finding out why she was a target of this. Being a former solider she is trained, and the close quarters combat is well done. They do it in a more realistic way. She takes damage and is not this invincible character. As things continue things get more and more unbelievable with the plot to the point where instead of them having some action or final confrontation, the bad guy does this big exposition dump. He tells us his life story, his plan along with his future plans...it was just lazy. So, half of this is pretty solid, but they really falter after that. Just ok. Clarence Williams JrI went into this not knowing what to expect by the previews and I was pleasantly surprised. This is not going to be for everyone due to the set up. Not as inappropriate but similar to Deadpool in the way the comedy is a little dark and they are anti-heroes. They all come from flawed backgrounds but come together for the greater good and for their lives to have some purpose other than their own selfish gain. None of them (outside of Bucky) have any sort of real superpowers so the set pieces are more grounded and similar to the new Captain America in that way. Which is kind of awkward when you have a villain that has superpowers and can easily defeat them. So for me that was a bit of a flaw and made that ending a bit anti climatic. However, the writing is crisp and the jokes land which make it an entertaining and different product than what Marvel usually puts out. I think it is very good, and you will like it if you want something off the beaten path. Please check out my podcast Mostly Low Budget Movie Reviews with Clarence for a more detailed breakdown.
