Twenty years ago, monsters rose on earth and began a new age of civilization. One where humans live in military-controlled, cramped and dirty cities along the coasts, and the majority of the United States is known as the Wastes. A lawless, desolate and dangerous place, teeming with monsters that have claimed the land for their own. Including Wyn the Soul Eater. He appears every three years, making his way across the country and slaughtering humans randomly, sucking them dry until they're nothing but husks. I have only been in the military for six months, but now I am part of a unit tasked with trying to stop and capture him. And when I'm the only soldier out of hundreds that the Soul Eater leaves alive, I realize that something about me has intrigued him. But what is it? What could a twenty-three-year-old guy from the south, with no one and nothing in the world, have possibly done to capture the attention of a death monster with horns, blackened fingertips and a face hidden in the dark depths of his hood?--

I didn’t really know what to expect going into this series, however, I was pleasantly surprised. I had simply anticipated a smutty romance but I hadn’t anticipated truly liking the characters and storyline. Admittedly, there were some pacing issues and flaws in the world building but I found that I could overlook these shortcomings because I greatly enjoyed the dynamic between Wynn and Danny. I would’ve liked a more compelling backstory from either of the characters but they were so sweet that I didn’t mind all that much. This was simply an enjoyable and fun read. Great for cleansing the palate between poignant or heavy reads.

"I truly can not stop raving about this book!
I picked this up expecting a nice light monster romance/spicy read. I did not expect that this story would bring me so close to crying on multiple occasions. I’m not going to give spoilers, but this book hits in the FEELS at certain parts, especially towards the end.
The plot is really interesting and pretty fast moving. The spice was a 10/10 for me, it was super well-written and there’s a pretty decent amount of it, but not in a way that it detracts from the plot. As for the main relationship, Danny and Wyn are both such sweet characters and their relationship is absolutely adorable, and I would die for them.
Obviously this book is a pretty specific taste (as monster romance/spice may not be everyone’s cup of tea), but if you do enjoy that kind of book, I can not recommend this one enough. I would just suggest checking trigger warnings beforehand (I believe they are available on the author’s website)."

"<strong>I’m not crying, you’re crying </strong><br/><br/>I really never expected a monster romance to get me so stingy-eyed. This was so cute and wholesome (except the torture part).<br/><br/>Also, don’t go with the audible. Wyn’s voice is great, but the accent the actor gave Danny is the worst southern accent since Jasper from Twilight. As someone from the south, it was embarrassing and cringy. Completely took me out of the book and I had to shut it off and go back to reading"
