For much of her life, Anne Morrow has stood in the shadows of those around her. Then Anne, a college senior, travels to Mexico City to spend Christmas with her family. There she meets Colonel Charles Lindbergh, fresh off his celebrated 1927 solo flight across the Atlantic. Charles sees in Anne a kindred spirit, a fellow adventurer, and her world will be changed forever. The two marry in a headline-making wedding. Hounded by adoring crowds and hunted by an insatiable press, Charles shields himself and his new bride from prying eyes, leaving Anne to feel her life falling back into the shadows. In the years that follow, despite her own major achievements, Anne is viewed merely as the aviator's wife. The fairy-tale life she once longed for will bring heartbreak and hardships, ultimately pushing her to reconcile her need for love and her desire for independence, and to embrace, at last, life's infinite possibilities for change and happiness.

"A compelling and cherishable story that goes through all the life events of Anne Lindbergh. It shows the raw and intimate reality of two people we always heard about in our textbooks. I love the way Melanie writes and can build an emotional scene in a matter of words. "

"This was a fascinating read. To tackle the story of the Lindbergh's was no easy task, but Melanie Benjamin does it with beautiful prose and engaging characters. It was especially interesting to see their life through Anne's eyes, which revealed many of the cracks in the golden casing of "The First Couple of Aviation". The story explored love, duty, honor, patriotism, guilt, and finding your own voice...all in a beautiful prose that will make you want to re-read passages. I had read "The Autobiography of Mrs. Tom Thumb", and loved it, so I was really looking forward to this book. Established fans or new readers of Benjamin's work are in for a treat. Highly recommended!! :)[bc:The Aviator's Wife|13642950|The Aviator's Wife|Melanie Benjamin|https://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1345153864s/13642950.jpg|19258153]"
