"“If you find me, take me home”<br/>⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️<br/>This book destroyed me emotionally. The quote above and many others throughout the book had me in tears instantly. I simply couldn’t put it down. The journey Carey goes through over the course of this story was heartbreaking but also extremely powerful. This book handles trauma in such a beautiful and haunting manner. From page one, I was completely engrossed in this story and had to know what was going to happen to these girls. The resilience of both Carey and her sister was unbelievable. At times, I honestly forgot I was physically reading this story as the author was able to paint such captivating landscapes for her characters to be immersed in. The subtle Winnie-The-Pooh references throughout the novel acted as icing on top of an already perfect cake as they helped relay just how young these girls truly were while having to go through experiences that forced them to mentally mature way beyond when they should have had to. The fact that I was able to get though the last 100 pages is surprising as my vision by that point was completely blurred by tears. This is an absolutely beautiful novel about trauma, resiliency, and “faking it through until you make it true”. Books like these remind me why I love reading and I am beyond grateful I stumbled upon it. <br/>"
"I've read this book multiple times now and I've decided its one of my top favorites in YA contemporary that I've read. This is an emotional hard-hitting novel that talks about 2 sisters and their journey to accepting their new reality when their world is turned upside-down. This book made me tear up multiple times when reading about what these two girls (Carey and Jenessa) went through in their lives. <br/>I originally rated this book as a 4 but this last read has made me decide to bump it up to a 5."
