Hello everyone! I have a huge TBR pile (20+ books) I keep telling myself to read more in it before buying new books (but that doesn’t work) does anyone else have the same problem? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to read more in my TBR pile before buying new books? I was thinking about maybe setting a goal to read so many in my TBR before buying a new one. Thank in advance 😊

Sheli Wilburn I always have 3 books that I read at the same time. My rule is, that I have to finish all three before starting another. This lets me read new books while reading books I already have.

Sarah Ortinau TBR jar, where you write down the books fold them up and put in a jar, then pull one or two out every month

Jenifer penczynzyn You could try having a jar (however big or small you want it to be) and have the rule that the jar must be filled before a new book can be purchased. When you finish a book on your TBR, put either a piece of paper or a token in the jar. When the jar is filled, you can get a new book.

Julz What books do you have in your TBR? We could tell you about one of those books and why we like it if we have read it and convince you to read it if you want.

Sara Thanks but I have a system in my TBR (like the first is a mystery then a classic then a thriller then a mystery again and so on) I just have the problem of buying new books before reading more books in my TBR then I want.

Julz Oh ok sounds good! Maybe instead of buying books you could get them from the library so at least it’s free. Or read the first few pages of several books you own and maybe one will interest you.

Sara Thanks that’s a good idea 😊

Julz If your TBR of physical books is only 20+ books that’s not bad at all my physical TBR is 108 books. (I know I have a problem of buying books before I read them too)

Brielle Nye this is exactly what happens to me! from the pile of books, i put them in order them from the most recent i’ve bought to the ones i’ve had the longest. I start with the older books then work my way down the line to the most recent! hope this helps!

Sara I try to do that but sometimes I switch it up.

Quinn Trenouth I tend to start books based on my mood after I finished a book. Not helpful for getting through all my unread books but I find it helps me want to read. If I make lists of books to read I often don’t feel like reading the first one the list. However, I have started to frequent my local library more when I have an urge to buy a new book. Sometimes I will later purchase the book if it is something I want to own and lend to others. But I have saved some money as others I don’t want to own.

BookDragon Pick a couple that interest you most and then look up fandom stuff/fan art/reviews etc about the books (just be careful to avoid spoilers!). I find that when in a slump or not interested in my TBR this really helps get me excited to read them :)
