Wish - Likewise Movie Reviews
"Let me start off by saying, the care & detail in this movie makes it awesome.
It is a musical & the songs have a great beat to them. You'll enjoy their catchy tune, but it might not stick with you.
Now the story. I actually love it. I found the story compelling & fun. There's a lot that's left unanswered & just plain thrown to the side to never be fleshed out, but I adore having a real villain, & interesting main character. Plus, her friends are both fun & a great Easter egg for Snow White & the 7 Dwarves.
In fact, the story will surprise you more than you think. You understand the end goal & how things will end up, but that's a given with a Disney movie. It will trick you more than once, catching you off-guard, but the rest of the time you're gonna see things coming.
The next thing I'm gonna explain is more of a negative, & will spoil 1 character a bit. So here we go.
When I learned they changed Star from being a romantic interest for our main character, I was mad. People dont want a disney love story anymore, & it makes me so sad, since Elemental wasnt well recieved that proves it. Yet you can tell when you watch the movie that Star being a love interest was the original idea. In fact, if you don't know that, you might be confused by how she knows so much about Star when he doesn't speak. Yet after learning they cut all the speaking parts for Star, all those lines that are just thrown in without any prior knowledge or backing makes sense. It both diminished Star as a true character & creates some consistency flaws for the movie.
Now for what makes this movie so much fun to watch. If you are a Disney fan, you'll love the eater eggs. Especially the moment the credits start. I refuse to spoil that but man is it worth watching. Everything else about it melts away because the ending of this movie just blows everything out of the water. Easter eggs & storywise. It's so well done & satisfying. Perfectly executed."
"This was a super cute movie. I want a star plushie so bad right now. Haha. Sabino’s wish and how it played out in the end credits was satisfying; inspiring the next generation and having the Disney theme play while reminiscing on the past Disney characters was amazing. Congrats to Disney on 100 movies! "
"Wow, Disney's started ripping itself off. Could you really not create any other characters you had to steal past ones?
The star was cute.
It would've been cool as the creation story of the magic mirror from snow white, done darkly and cool.
Instead it was non commital in all things.
The art style smashed too much together. They could've done it more picture book and it would've been better or not bothered at all.
The only good things were a couple of songs and that one of the main characters had a disability.
Otherwise a waste of time and money."

"I probably can stop by highlighting how adorable the Star is, but this is easily for anyone that has fallen in love with anything Disney has done over the past 100 years. If you leave the movie not recognizing the similarities between Wish’s characters and other ones from older projects, this likely was not for you!"
"Was super excited to see this movie. The message was as of course cute (most of them are) but it didn’t fall short of outstanding (what it was suppose to be) the basic princess story, the evil villain. I did like how they went old school and filmed in 2D. Brought back memories. It was cute but not the best. 6/10 ⭐️"
"On some deeper level, it really REALLY hurts to say this: Wish has got to be one of the most capital-M MID Disney movies I’ve ever seen. Normally I don’t think it’s fair to compare a movie to its preproduction or concept version but it’s not even close! My biggest issue with this movie isn’t that Asha feels like a lifeless main character trying to ride the coattails of far more interesting characters before her (namely Rapunzel, Anna, and even a little dash of Moana), it’s that the movie feels like it lacks any sense of urgency and thus the pacing is viewed as more of a recommendation: Magnifico goes from keeping a book of forbidden magic sealed up to immediately breaking it open based on the flash of a wishing Star (which hasn’t actually done anything of note or value by this point), Asha’s friends feel meaningless, the songs are meandering, and their attempts to be “quirky” just come across as awkward or annoying. For something as big as the 100th anniversary of Disney, I feel like I should be coming away from this with something more than “that’s it?” but even that feels like an overreaction. "
"cute! that star is freaking adorable. storyline was interesting but the the music was mediocre and the characters were lacking. really beautiful to see in theaters tho. i just think when disney tries to do a cumulation of every movie they’ve made it’s gonna be a bit basic as it tries to cover all the bases. "This movie was uninspired from the writing of the plot to the writing of the song lyrics. It felt like they were just testing this odd graphic style but no actual care or time was put into the movie. "

"Terrible writing all around avoid if possible."
"The soundtrack and story line was beautiful and the main character says a lot of funny relatable statements that make her feel more “real”. I personally took a star off because the animation style on the king looked different than the others and it truly was distracting for the whole movie. He looked more “comic book” while everyone else looked like the typical Disney/pixar "

"This movie is so cute. It has an amazing story and adorable characters. The songs could be a little bit better. The first song reminded me of Encanto. I wish the songs were a little bit more unique. The best song was At All Costs in my opinion."
"In all honesty it's a solid 6/10. I'm a huge Disney fan, and this film was supposed to be "the one" to celebrate 100 years of Disney. Loved the character designs and the songs buuuuuuuuuut... The story writing flow and the visual effects/graphics could have been better.
In all honesty, this movie had so much potential! I was so excited! But unfortunately, this film was okay. Its a little cutesy BUT WE COULD'VE HAD A STAR BOY AND A VILLAIN DYNAMIC DUO 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭"

"I thought it was good. I feel like it could’ve been better, but it was good. There just wasn’t really any character development for any of the characters even the main character Asha she kind of just stayed the same throughout the whole movie, I just feel like for a celebration film It could’ve been better, but I loved King Magnifico the goat was amazing the songs were absolutely great (except I am a star didn’t really like that one) I liked the watercolor animation there were a lot of Disney Easter eggs, which I liked and there were some really cute and funny parts:)
If it’s something you wanna watch just ignore all of the negative comments and just go watch it"

"I’d give this a zero stars if it was an option. It’s like they decided ai generated movies was the way to go. Kinda expect better from Disney… "
"i hated this movie definitely not disneys best work “asha and the star” sounds like masha and the bear. This is definitely wish, a wish version of aladin. disney you have to start putting your best foot foward and find some new and improved ideas becuase your recent stuff is not it. love the old dinsney movies my childhood but the way things have been recently going I don’t even want to say that I have watched any of your movies. Thank you."
"I think the reason people don’t like this movie is because first of all the animation was weird and kind of bizarre but also Magnifico could have been a way better villain than he was and after his first song everything went downhill. At the beginning he seems like a decent king with questionable intent, he’s obviously been stung in the past by whatever happened to his village which they never really expand on. The Queen and his people genuinely love him, even though he was greedy and a bit petulant but he was your average American president he wasn’t outright evil. Which leads the viewer to believe he could become a great king or an evil one. But when he made the switch it kind of seemed out of no where and to a degree that didn’t make sense for who he was prior to using the evil spell. Also when the star showed up and it messed with the wishes the way he went from 0 to 100 from cautious and a little paranoid to delusions of prosecution. We haven’t really seen that behavior from him before. And he thinks that someone is GENUINELY coming for him and his city vs what he stated at the beginning that he thought some wishes were dangerous because they inspire change. He was afraid of losing his power not that someone was going to cause him bodily harm. Idk his whole character was bizarre and not well thought out or written.
Overall the songs are ok, at all costs, this wish, and knowing what I know now are good songs the rest are so eye glazing."
