KyKy4.5 stars. I really enjoyed this book! It was really fast paced but didn’t feel rushed. The flashback scenes did feel a bit long at first (compared to the present chapters) but I still enjoyed them and they are definitely needed to understand what’s going on in the book and why. Now this might just be me but this felt a bit like a Draco/Hermione fan fiction. Not to say the writing was bad but feel of it. The only thing is I didn’t like the epilogue and there is a lot of second hand embarrassment.

KyKyOMG I can’t even put into words how much I loved reading this book. The writing was gorgeous and sucked me right in. I could NOT put it down and finished it in 4 hours (might take less time but I was annotating). There is just so much to love about the book and while there are some questionable themes it all just adds more depth to how messed up the whole ordeal was.

KyKy3.5 stars. I *was* really enjoying this book and was going to give it 4 stars until maybe the 250-300 page mark and things just took a turn for the worse. First the pros: the book was very fast paced and over all I didn’t feel like it was a chore to read. It held my attention and (most of the time) the writing was pretty good! Now for the cons: (SPOILERS) Maybe it was just me but it was extremely hard to keep up with the family tree and who everyone was?? Now the placement of the s*x scenes were outrageous!! (MAYJOR SPOILER!!) Because why did they get down jiffy with it after she had found out HIS WHOLE FAMILY WAS DEAD AND HE HAD NO CLUE THIS WHOLE TIME! After she knew that the reason he was gone was because he was trying to secure passage for them… It just gave me the biggest ick along with when they had s*x right after he had found out that she was keeping that information from him??! I can’t even make this up… And finally (the main reason this book wasn’t going to be above 4 stars in the first place) the fighting scenes were extremely hard to follow. He is a *Gladiator* and there is a hell of a lot of fighting in this book. If fighting is going to be such a main component I would think you would make sure the scenes were understandable but I guess not.

KyKyFirst I need to point out how BEAUTIFUL the cover is *chefs kiss* it immediately caught my eye! Now for the review: Overall this book was amazing! A sapphic retelling of the swan lake??Sounds like something right out of my dreams!I loved the magic system and thought it really unique. I loved all the twists and even though towards the end you pretty much had it all figured out I still really enjoyed everything leading up to that point. The two main reasons this book is not 5 stars is because I really wish the author would have leaned more into more mature darker gothic writing, and would have developed the love between the couple a bit more. I personally feel like the book would have been better as a whole if the characters were a bit more mature, along with the writing. At times the characters felt extremely childish and hard to take seriously. I would have also enjoyed to see the writing be a bit darker, (possible a bit more gore) and a bit more gothic as well. For the couple I felt their love was rushed a little at the end and would have liked to have more touching scenes with them at the beginning that just gave us *more*. I would still 100% recommend this book!

KyKy3.5 stars. SPOILERS! I didn’t really have high hopes for this book. I had read the summary on the back and just wasn’t interested in the plot line, however I tried to not let my bias ruin the my opinion on the book before I even read it. I had an extremely hard time keeping up with all the political components in this book. A lot of it just seemed like have backed nonsense. The other big issue for me was the fighting scenes, it was just really hard to follow along and again, it felt rushed. There was a lot of mistakes, one moment it said that they were in boats and then on land and then they ran out of arrows but he still had a dozen left??? There are a lot more in just not going to go back through this book. Anyway, I’m very excited for the third and fourth book!

KyKyWow, I’m a bit delirious because it’s currently 2:30 am, I’ve been reading for 5 hours straight and sobbing non-stop. This book was amazing. Everything Suzanna writes is incredible and heart wrenching. It was nice seeing all the characters and all the hidden snipets from the other books. It was also nice to see into Haymitch. I have always wondered about his game and his character, I just didn’t think it would leave me this broken hearted.

KyKyI really enjoyed going back into the world of Elfhame and was excited to read about Cardan and Jude again. It really was a nice, quick read that delved more into Cardan.

KyKyThis book absolutely just took my breath away. It was amazingly written and beautifully devastating. One of the best historical fictions books I have ever read and will probably ever read. It brought me to tears and I promise it will do the same to you. The ending was shocking. I thought for sure I knew what sister was in the present.

KyKy3.5 stars. I was really enjoying this books at first and thought for sure it was going to be 4 stars but obviously that rating dropped. The s*x scenes were extremely hard to read so I just skipped past and it was really hard to imagine the two main characters as 30 when they are acting like teenagers. But the book as a whole was pretty nice and I would recommend if you like hockey romances.
