Ernest Hemingway
The last novel Ernest Hemingway saw published, The Old Man and the Sea has proved itself to be one of the enduring works of American fiction. It is the story of an old Cuban fisherman and his supreme ordeal: a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Using the simple, powerful language of a fable, Hemingway takes the timeless themes of courage in the face of defeat and personal triumph won from loss and transforms them into a magnificent twentieth-century classic.

"If you only read two books in your life, this should be both of them. "

"Lovely short story. Old Man gets a catch of a lifetime with a messed-up ending. It's a classic for a reason. It's a light, quick story. Read it at least once. It's not a highly rated book for me, but I'm glad I read it and would pass along as a recommendation ☺️"

"If you want a homoerotic novel about an old man and a dead fish written with the blandness of a drivers Ed manual than this is the book for you! The true entertainment of this book is trying to figure out how in the world this thing managed to win any prizes"

"While this is not my favorite of Ernest’s work, it was still an interesting read. Many quotable lines and makes the reader think about things, life, people, who would miss you if you were gone, morality, sin, etc. Throughout the book and at the end, I caught myself thinking: “Hang on, what was the point?” But it was quickly followed by: “And why couldn’t I put it down?” Hard to explain fully and not my highest rating, but still a unique read."
