"A new-age fairytale that has the spirit of the old fairytales. This story had just the right amount of magic and luck that made it hopeful and fairytale-esc without falling into the trap of focusing on the female lead or the romance too much. The story felt like the story all the characters rather than the story of the fl and her crew that follow her. The world was also a perfect mix of magic but a little bit of realism. "

"While I loved parts of this, there were parts that just were confusing for me. For that I give it 3.75 stars. "
"I have yet to find a book by T. Kingfisher that I don't like. This one was another amazing read. There was magic, fairy godmothers, a goblin market, a rag tag group of saviors, an cursed kingdom and a pet named Bonedog; what more could you need? There were multiple amusing twists and turns."

"This was wonderful! It was the perfect weaving of cozy fantasy with higher stakes. Chef’s kiss! "

"I’ll admit, at first, I had a hell of a time getting into this one. The vocabulary and the voice and the location in which the story started- had me entirely confused. However, once I pushed forward I quickly fell into the flow of it and with each supporting character added, it just got better and better.
As with each Kingfisher book I have read so far, the humor throughout this book is perfect. I was fully invested in each of the characters- and in fact, I'd love to read this story from each of their perspectives. But what I'd love more, is to have a prequel from the perspective of one specific character, especially. I would also really love to see Kingfisher continue this story- to write a sequel.
There are a few things that I would have liked more backstory to or more details to, but purely out of curiosity- not that the story lacked information to be understood."
"Took me a little bit to get into this one and I for sure thought I was going to throw the towel in and cast it away to the shelf. So glad I didn't! It picks up in the middle. I enjoyed the magic, sarcastic humor, witchy vibes, and of course bone dog. Well written and wouldn't mind a sequel to it! "
"Beautifully written, modern take on a fairy tale. I loved every bit of this book. Delves into nuanced family relationships, disparity between the sexes, magic, female heroin, fairies, godmothers, curses, and of course, what fairy tale is complete without a love story.
TW: infant loss, miscarriage, drowning, domestic violence."
"4.25 ⭐️ (My favorite of her books so far!)<br/><br/>"She took a deep breath, squared her shoulders, and stepped forward to meet her destiny and win the tools to kill a prince."<br/><br/>Although this was somewhat of a short book, the quest we went on with Marra and friends was a complete journey that didn't feel rushed or like it left anything out. <br/><br/>I loved all the characters and sidekicks (as usual), and I also enjoyed the nods to your usual run-of-the-mill fairy tales (which this definitely was not)."
"Another delightful read from Kingfisher. This is my first foray into her fantasy work, although her horror novels have strong fantastical elements. I loved how she took aspects from different fairy tales and wove them together to create something entirely unique. And who doesn’t love a good quest? But my favorite thing about the author’s writing is how her protagonists feel so real in their descriptions, particularly in their interactions with one another. As a reader I was genuinely rooting for this ragtag group of magical misfits and found I didn’t want this book, or their adventures, to end."
