"I decided to read this book because a school district in my state was being questioned for having high schoolers read this. I wanted to read for myself what could cause such a controversy. This book is thought provoking, well written and a must read for anyone. Note: The school district kept this book as required reading."

"I first learned of this book on Native Lady Book Warrior's booktube page, and just now got around to reading it. I finished it in one day it was so good, and I say that as a plot-driven reader reading a book that is largely character-driven."

"I’m a mixed Indigenous person who didn’t grow up in my culture, so reading this made me feel happy to see indigenous representation."

"As it is Native American History Month, I felt very strongly about reading a book by an indigenous author prior to Thanksgiving. As a student of history, I feel like it’s important to remember the origins of Thanksgiving, and while I don’t deny that it is a time for being thankful and coming together (albeit virtually this year), it’s also an example of a white washed holiday.

This book was the perfect choice for the timing, especially since it addresses the dark history of native people in North America head on. While it’s billed as YA, it’s extremely brutal and touches on several topics that bothered me deeply. It’s also a prime example of why we must understand history to prevent it from happening again. It’s a novel about the importance of stories, however horrible they may be, and how our past defines us and encourages us to be better for future generations."

"Amazing read."
"Do you want to read a book with First Nations characters by an Indigenous author? Do you like YA novels and dystopian fiction? Then this is the book for you! This is one of my all-time favourite books. The futuristic setting is quite realistic as it talks about the effects of climate change and the government's continued interest in controlling Indigenous peoples. This book is brilliant and I can not recommend it enough! "
"Such an amazing read! The author's unique descriptive writing style is unlike anything I've read before, and makes you really imagine the landscape the author is painting with her words. You get to love each of the characters and root for them. I haven't been so affected by a characters death in a fictional book in a long time, and I still think about character deaths in this book. Beautifully written, highly recommend! "

"This was an okay read, but I would have liked more detail. Detail about the problems the world was facing, detail about what was happening to the Indigenous, and details about how it was overcome. I know the story wasn't about those things, but it would have helped me get into the book more."
