I just finished It by Stephen King, absolute masterpiece. I’m trying to figure out which King to go with next. I have the Shining and the Stand on my shelf. Which do y’all think I should read first?

Jessica King I couldn’t get through the Stand. Lasted about 40 pages. The Shining is INCREDIBLE! Very different then the movie.

Sarah Anthony They are both amazing books but in different ways. The Shinning is more a classic horror story so if you are looking to be terrified, that's the way to go. The Stand is more of an epic apocalypse. It's scary but it's not a horror. It's also very long but I love it.

MIke S The Shining IMO is one of the best and first books any King fan should read. Its an amazing psychological horror and so different from the popular movie. 100% thatd be my choice based on my experience with it.

Elizabeth cayer The Stand for sure. It is not a true horror like his other books; it is about good and evil. A masterpiece similar to It. You cannot put it down once you get into it.

Lee Anne Roque I haven't read The Shining or The Stand but two of my favorite S.K. books are Bag of Bones and Lisey's Story I think is what it's called

Haven They are both great from what I heard. I just recently read the body by Stephen king and was obsessed 🤩 couldn’t stop reading. And I read it any chance of free time I had

Haven I also have pet cemetery by Stephane king but haven’t read it because I’m reading too many other books at the moment. I’m thinking about getting the stand, long walk and the shining. Someday I hope to halve all of S.K. Books!

Courtney Dekanich The Shining. I've read both multiple times. Each time I read The Stand, I like it a little less. But The Shining? It may very well be King's best work. The build from unease to terror is incredible. The characters are very well developed - especially Jack Torrance. And the setting - it's brought to life with such amazing detail that it becomes another character in and of itself.

Hannah They're both amazing, so it depends on the mood you're in. The Shining is pretty scary in places. I don't remember The Stand being scary but I was emotionally invested.
