"This mood setting classic stands the test of time, the remake is horrible!!! The haunting of hill house is very good reimagining but this original with Julie Harris still creeps me out even today"

"Has one of the most frightening scenes of any horror movie simply by playing on the audience's imagination (very true to the novel!)"

"Watched this in my gothic lit class for our unit on The Haunting Of Hill House. It's fairly faithful to the book and I loved seeing all the angles they used. Very atmospheric, it really does make it feel like the house is just slightly off"

"One of my favorite movies. The acting, the camera angles, the lighting... true atmospheric horror at its finest!"

"This is the first version of The Haunting of Hill House I've watched... or I guess technically the second as I also watched the Netflix series but that was a very different version whereas this, from my understanding, follows the same story as the original. I loved it! Explicitly queer character, rough edges, psychological element, overall a great old ghost story."

"A gorgeous movie. Well shot, good lighting, and the black-and-white adds more to the atmosphere than you’d think. This is the kind of thing I think of when I think of a good scary movie: not bloody, not too depressing, just a good old spooky ghost story. All the acting’s good too.
The one problem I have is I don’t get why the protagonist wants to stay so bad. Okay, yeah she’s going crazy, but I should be able to still follow the emotional logic behind her actions and I don’t here. When you’re in a house that’s scaring you this much I fail to see how going back to your sister’s apartment is the worse choice."

"Brilliant adaptation of the book. As in the book, many of the eerie events are suggested more by the reactions of the characters rather than described or seen by the audience. This lack of manifestation makes the movie all the scarier. Definitely gets a vote from me for one of the scariest movies of all time."
