Not only does she defy gender roles but she also recognizes the importance, strength, and power of femininity! This is one of the first books I’ve seen with a strong female lead that doesn’t paint women who are girly as weak. Her character arc is beautiful and there were so many twists not to mention the phenomenal way the author wrote Aden and Laney’s romance! A must from one lover of the high seas to another.

Cecily AdamsThis series is phenomenal, I cannot recommend it enough. The author did a wonderful job with the development of each characters and how they struggle in their own way. I also love how Aileana struggles with darkness and morals, it’s amazing to see a character who isn’t perfect all the time, isn’t strong enough, and doesn’t always make the right decision, it really made me love her all the more. A must read and one of my all time favorite series!
