Jacob KleinThe atmosphere this film cultivated was great. I loved the strange folk traditions, the old village prayers, the slowly growing signs and sense of unease. It did small town horror very well.

Jacob KleinIt was ok. Predictable and really tropey in a kind of irritating way. The plot was kind of fun but it was mostly ruined by how bland and uninspired the characters were.

Jacob KleinSo much fun. It didn't really address the mom's homophobia that much since it was going for a campy vibe, which could have been interesting, but the mom is such an incredible character with so many witty lines. A real feel-good movie with some great songs. Loved it

Jacob KleinEverything about this movie was great. Tilda Swinton and Idris Elba had great chemistry. The contrast of the distant, intellectual woman who claims to want for nothing and the immortal djinn tortured by romantic longing was very well done. The visuals were amazing. Dreamy and bright and bold, it really captured the romanticism of the story. It had a strong magical realism vibe that I was obsessed with. The title sounding very similar to One Hundred Years of Solitude, the most famous magical realist novel, probably wasn't a coincidence. This was definitely one of the most successful movies to capture the casual whimsy and romanticism of that literary movement. Highly recommend giving it a watch

Jacob KleinWatching it, I felt like this movie was specifically made for me and my tastes. The only thing that would have made it perfect is if it was a bit gayer, but I know that's a personal thing. This movie got so incredibly creative with cardboard. The maze was obviously the star of the show. The amount of inventive ways they were able to make all of these whimsical traps and rooms out of nothing but cardboard, with the occasional bit of cloth or wood or light bulbs thrown in, was truly incredible. It was whimsical and strange, the character's conflicts were all very relatable. Watching this movie was an amazing journey.
