Do you think a 14yr old could read this series? She has read the hunger games, the maze runner, Harry Potter, and divergent. Based on those do you think she could read this? The books can’t have almost any language and no lgbtq characters. Let me know what y’all think.

AutisticJester I don't know it's a little dark in places and very descriptive...uh maybe give them another year or two.

Kaitlyn My mom said that it was more so complicated in its world and character building but that it wasn’t necessarily inappropriate or anything but is for more mature teens

Nolan Tucker The series will get violent and in the first book there are mentions of SA or intimacy in general so honestly I would say not quite yet I think around age 17-18 I would be ok but they have to prepare for a darker toned version and for the other requirements on your post I would say that the author makes some new words which you would see but otherwise there are no lgbtq characters that I know of (even though I don’t know why it can’t) I’ve only read the first trilogy so I can’t say for certain

Julz Could you explain why you think they could read it?

Hoid :) I would say it would depend on the 14 year old. It’s darker than Hunger Games and I’d say it’s more brutal. Some of the gruesome parts are quite descriptive. So maybe wait a little bit?

Chuck I read it at 15 this one wasn't bad at all. However book 4/5 has some VERY graphic violence/tourture mildly graphic sexual assault and a page long spice scene.

Mandy There are men that are married and other LGBTQIA+ characters later in the series. This isn’t a YA series and those books aren’t comps imo. While I would have read it at 14 your list leaves me to assume they might be a bit sheltered, probably best to skip it.

Julz Thanks for your opinion. I’ll wait to give it to her probably till she’s a bit older. She’s 15 now.
