ratSigh, sad to say i was thoroughly disappointed with this book. It was difficult for me to continue through it. This is minor but I didn't really like how the book was split between the two main characters perspective. While I understand the decision and reasoning for doing this, i think it would help the readers feel more connected with the main characters if it was done in one perspective rather than shifting between ellory and Malcolm. It also comes across as lazy at times. Also not a fan of the writing style. I haven't read any other books by this author but I was not a fan of the way this was written. The writing felt cliche and reminded me of early 90 sitcoms (not in the good way) with some of the diaglogue. The book is cliche and I found it difficult to connect with each character and actually care — especially Malcolm. I like the overall premise, i think twins moving to a new town while navigating a rocky relationship with their mother can be very interesting but i was left disappointed with the execution.
ratSurprisingly enjoyed this book! I see many say how its slow paced and the romance came out of nowhere but I did call the two getting together from the beginning maybe it's just me though. I do think it takes a while to get to the actual murder plot, however, it seems that this book and majority of it was to set up the setting and each character involved. While I acknowledge how flawed this can be, i do appreciate the story building and getting a sense of each character. I think the main character is very Autistic coded whether intentional or not and it's refreshing to see! If you're looking for something fast paced I dont recommend this book. I recommend listening to the audio book. Overall, i enjoyed this book as a nice casual read/listen.
ratLoved this book! The audio book was amazing i definitely recommend listening to that if you're not a big reader. I love the main character and the way she's written. She's very likeable and headstrong while also being a nerd not what you imagine for someone like her to be. I think most of the characters are well written and likeable as well. I wasnt sure about the mystery at first but i found myself quite invested in it as Pip continued to uncover clues. Without spoiling much, I loved this book and definitely recommend it.
